Biografia
Alessandro Porro è un soccorritore con un passato da informatico. Nel 2017 lascia le ambulanze per SOS Mediterranée – un’organizzazione umanitaria che ha salvato oltre 37.000 persone – e ne diventa presidente. Sta in mare sei o sette mesi all’anno, e quando ritorna a terra cammina nei boschi o tiene conferenze sul soccorso in acqua.
Da grande vorrebbe diventare una rana.

Alessandro Porro aveva una vita normale fino a quando non si è imbattuto nella fotografia di un bimbo africano salvato dalle acque del Mediterraneo durante il viaggio della speranza verso l’Europa. Da quel momento la sua vita è cambiata, e da anni pattuglia i mari con le navi di SOS Mediterranée alla ricerca di naufraghi da salvare.
In questo libro il racconto dell’esperienza di soccorso in mare vissuta da Alessandro e dal suo equipaggio si alterna alla storia di Fathia e Muneer, due ragazzini che dopo essere sfuggiti a un eccidio per mano dell’Isis decidono di tentare la sorte e imbarcarsi per l’Europa.

Alessandro Porro had a normal life until he came across a photograph of a boat floating in the Mediterranean Sea, loaded with shipwrecked people trying to reach the shores of Europe. From that moment, his life changed, and he has since been patrolling the seas with the SOS Mediterranee ships in search of people to rescue. In this book, the account of the sea rescues experienced by Alessandro and his crew alternates with the story of Fathia and Muneer, two young girls who decided to try their luck and embark for Europe after escaping a massacre at the hands of Isis. “What is it like to see the coast of Europe for the first time, after days and days of sailing aimlessly and waiting? Hundreds of heads will turn in the same direction, towards a coastline that is not made of sand and stones, roads, houses and towns, forests and mountains. It is made of promises. Bio
He is a rescue worker with a background in IT. In 2017, he left the ambulance service for SOS Mediterranee – a humanitarian organisation that has saved more than 37,000 people – and became its president. He is at sea for six or seven months in a year, and when he returns to land he walks in the woods or lectures on rescue from the sea. When he grows up, he would like to be a frog.
